VAW Social Experiment

This video, produced in 2022 as part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), showcases a social experiment conducted by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). The experiment aimed to evaluate the public’s awareness and understanding of VAW and related laws, including the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262), the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), and the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (RA 9208 as amended by RA 11862). It also sought to explore how people perceive VAW and their willingness to intervene when confronted with staged scenarios depicting intimate partner violence, gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, and trafficking in persons. The video highlights a series of social experiments conducted in various locations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. These experiments aimed to gauge the awareness levels of different groups in diverse communities and observe bystanders’ reactions and actions in simulated instances of violence, particularly violations of VAW-related laws. Through this initiative, the PCW gained valuable insights into public attitudes and behaviors, paving the way for enhanced advocacy efforts and more effective actions to prevent and address violence against women.
