The Supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment Project is notable in its design as it aims for holistic socio-economic changes, which means that, apart from leveling up their businesses, the Project targets and measures transformational changes among women. The Project’s performance indicators measured the changes in capacity and behavior, practice, or performance of WMEs in their workplaces and personal interactions. The Project recognizes that economic empowerment stems from improvements in the inter-related domains that influence women enterprises. In the case of the WEE project, what may be more instructive to emphasize is that the pandemic appears to have triggered positive changes for women entrepreneurs that WEE interventions had promoted. Among these are:
- Innovativeness in terms of products, markets, and new income streams.
- Giving importance to physical and mental health so WMEs may have fortitude and resilience in hard times.
- Being sensitive to the plight of their workers, partners, and customers.
- Maintaining good relations with people in government, fellow entrepreneurs, and communities.
