A Descriptive Analysis of Poverty Among Older People in the Philippines

This paper analyses poverty among older Filipinos and discusses policy implications. The paper examines multidimensional poverty among older people in the Philippines, as well as their income sources, expenditure patterns, asset ownership, and living arrangements. Results show reliance on remittances, higher essential spending, and lower asset ownership among many older people’s households. The authors advocate targeted policies and note the limitations of traditional metrics in capturing the full scope of older people’s economic vulnerability.
