The Third Issue of the Ateneo Law Journal’s 68th Volume stands as a tribute to the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration, examining contemporary issues that affect women and the law in the Philippines. Featuring a compelling Foreword by Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Chairperson ERMELITA V. VALDEAVILLA, this special issue honors 50 years of PCW’s transformative work: as architects of positive transformation, champions of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and catalysts for a nation where every Filipino can achieve their full potential. Chairperson VALDEAVILLA underscores that gender equality is the collective responsibility of Women and Everyone (WE), asserting that no one is a mere bystander. “WE are active agents of change,” she writes, “empowered by the law and driven by our unyielding commitment to equality. WE will not rest until every woman and girl in the Philippines, and across the globe, lives in a world free from discrimination, where her rights are protected, promoted, and fulfilled by the law.” This issue invites readers to reflect on the role of the law as a powerful instrument for social justice and as a force to dismantle the barriers that continue to hold women back. It calls on the nation to stand united, affirming that women’s rights are human rights—inherent, universal, inalienable, indivisible, and interdependent.
