This study uses panel data from 2000 to 2022 to examine differences in the salaries and career paths of women and men employed by the Asian Development Bank. It finds that the gender salary gap has narrowed among staff recruited internationally but has widened among staff recruited locally. Hiring practices have contributed to widening pay differences in favor of men, while retention patterns appear to have helped reduce differences.
